The Lion hotel is located in one of the most beautiful and peaceful spots in the resort of Borovets, the first and most popular international mountain resort in Bulgaria, just a few minutes' walk away from the main ski-lift station; located at 2000 metres above sea level on the Northern slopes of Rila mountain. The town centre is around 1 km away and guests will find shops within 880 metres of the hotel. The city of Sofia is some 70 km away. This charming hotel comprises excellently fitted rooms and offers its guests a range of services and facilities, for both leisure and business travellers.

As with a number of reviews the hotel is in a quiet location and apparently is walkable but I wouldn\'t want to as roads icy and no real footpath. The hotel operates a very well run minibus service to the town/ski area every 10-20 mins so walking is only required after this stops at 6 p.m, then again a taxi is only £5.00 into town. The rooms are comfortable and warm and the pool and sauna is a clean/welcome break to ease away the days skiing. The bar area has an open fire and is very warm and relaxing but again can get a little smokey.
The restaurant has 3 sittings and is usually easy to get a table even when getting a table for 7 as was our case. There was always soup and sald and cold meats for starters and then a warm main course and fruit and cake for dessert. The food is not british meals but when you go to a foreign country you do not expect english food. The meats ang goulash/stews were acceptable and filling. best sitting was usually the first as may have to wait a coule of minutes to get refills as food was used up. Only one day of week was the food a little odd for our tastes but we did manage to get something we all ate. I am not criticising the food to any extent as all hotels I find the food is not up to gourmet standards but this as acceptable and by no means inedible.
We would definitely use this hotel again if we go back to Borovets but they should improve the quality and standard of the lower pistes. The piste at the top of the gondola are far better. :D :D :D
